In order to meet our customers’ most stringent quality standards, we rely on advanced, automated in-house quality assurance methods, while also adhering to a variety of industry standards to guarantee that each project requirement is met timely and accurately. We maintain a world-class AS9100 Quality Management System that complements a wide range of qualifications & approvals to consistently deliver.
What is Automated Manufacturing?
Automated manufacturing presents a broad variety of benefits in nearly all applications. Primus has strategically invested in lean, innovative, 6S workstations throughout our production lines that drive consistency & reliability that enables technical team to focus on more complex & cognitive aspects of the manufacturing process. This is critical advantage to our competitors as it relates to program complexity, cost & flexibility.
Each manufacturing cell, in an automated set-up, performs its own specific operation or series of operations. The complexity of the processes can vary widely based on design requirements, but ultimately, each workpiece can move through partial or complete steps of an automated system until finished.
Types of Automation
At Primus Aerospace, we combine a variety of hard, soft & programmable automation solutions in order to maximize efficiency and ensure project success.
- Hard automation involves specialized equipment that are designed specifically to automate a sequence of assembly operations (note that product changeover is more difficult to accommodate).
- Soft automation is more flexible, allowing diverse types of parts to be manufactured with ease.
- Programmable automation uses production equipment that can change which sequence of operations it performs.
Primus Aerospace selects the most efficient automated equipment & processes based on the design, volume and length of contract when determining which automation requirements will be most beneficial to the customer.
Methods of Manufacturing
At Primus Aerospace, we rely on a number of manufacturing methods to ensure that we can facilitate a variety of complex geometries and tolerances. This comprehensive approach to manufacturing grants us unparalleled manufacturing flexibility.
We have maintained investment in the latest advancements within automation to facilitate our services and methodologies. These include practices such as:
- Robotic/Palletized Fixturing
- Poka-Yoke Methods
- 6S Cell Organization
- Lean Manufacturing
- High-Speed Machining
- 24/7 Operations
- Multi-Axis Machining
Tolerance Capabilities
Our tolerance capabilities rival the entire industry, consistently holding 0.0001” dimensions in high-volume manufacturing environments. We maintain rigid inspection standards in order to ensure product quality at this level which requires each production run to complete a thorough inspection plan in order to meet the tolerance requirements of our customers.
Every project begins with the FMEA as well as an extensive contract review. During this time, IPIC and SPC controls are established in order to achieve accurate production results. These and other factors receive continuous adjustments throughout production as needed to allow our teams to tightly control each process and ensure compliance with stringent internal/external quality requirements.
Ancillary Services
Primus Aerospace aims to provide complete and turnkey solutions. Through stringent automation, we are able to limit the need for secondary machining or finishing processes on many designs. We strive to be a single-source supplier providing single-piece flow if these services are warranted on a given project.
