The materials and designs behind aerostructure components for military aircraft and civilian aircraft differ, but the essential technical skills and the equipment necessary to produce these parts are quite similar.

Aerostructure components and systems in general refer to the frame of a fuselage, empennage, wing, or other flight control surface, and vary in size and complexity. Materials also range from an array of metallic materials to composites, but most commonly utilize aircraft-grade aluminum.
